Every year, the Department of State conducts a random selection process for Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) applicants, selecting candidates from all registered entries. The selection is based on the allocation of available visas in each region and country. It’s crucial to always stay informed about the entry submission deadline to ensure timely preparation and submission. The entry form is only available during the designated application window. Please note that entries submitted via the United States Postal Service will not be accepted.

Benefits of the US Diversity Visa Lottery Program

The U.S. Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery Program, also known as the Green Card Lottery, offers several benefits:

  • Path to Permanent Residency: The program provides winners and their eligible family members the opportunity to become permanent residents of the United States, which can eventually lead to U.S. citizenship.
  • Diversity and Inclusivity: The program aims to diversify the immigrant population by offering visas to individuals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States, promoting diversity and inclusivity.
  • No Sponsorship Required: Unlike many other U.S. immigration programs, the DV Lottery does not require sponsorship by a family member, employer, or any specific entity.
  • Equal Opportunity: The lottery system is designed to provide an equal opportunity to all eligible participants, regardless of their background, education, or employment.
  • Education and Employment Opportunities: DV Lottery winners and their families can access educational and employment opportunities in the United States, opening doors to a wide range of careers and experiences.
  • Access to U.S. Social Services: As permanent residents, DV Lottery winners and their families are eligible for various social services, including healthcare, education, and social security benefits.
  • Freedom to Live and Work: Winners have the freedom to live and work anywhere in the United States, granting them the chance to choose their preferred location.
  • Family Reunification: DV Lottery winners can also apply to bring their eligible family members to the United States, promoting family reunification.
  • Path to U.S. Citizenship: After a certain period of permanent residency, DV Lottery winners have the option to apply for U.S. citizenship, gaining the rights and privileges of American citizens.
  • Open to All Eligible Participants: The program is open to individuals from countries that meet the eligibility criteria, and it does not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, or religion.
  • Applicants Can Apply Annually: If an applicant is not selected in one year’s lottery, they can continue to apply in subsequent years, increasing their chances of success.
